Lantern Remnant
The Green Lantern Corps was once the greatest policing force in the universe until an impurity destroyed their ranks from within. Planets and entire sectors fearing those with a Power Ring have turned to new protectors while Lanterns have become outlawed. In Sector 2814, on a planet named Earth, a Remnant has formed around the Last Power Ring.Name: Kyle Rayner
Designation: N/A
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System: Third Planet (Earth), City: Blüdhaven
Spectrum Affinity: Green
Dossier: An independent artist, Rayner’s career did not pick up until he moved to Coast City. He secured ongoing work with the Coast City Chronicle as a cartoonist until they gave him his own comic strip. In time, a webcomic of his featuring the Sentinel of Golden Gate City based on stories of another hero from the 1940s picked up traction and led to the self-publication of a few graphic novels. The most recent starred a new character in franchise named the Scarlet Sentinel.
Rayner seems to be capable of channeling the Green Spectrum without training or utilizing a power ring. His control and understanding over it appears to be innate. Whether this is a byproduct of his imagination and life experience or something else remains unclear.
Guy Gardner presented him Hal Jordan’s power ring and welcomed him into the Green Lantern Remnant.
First Appearance: Lantern #1, Lantern #3 (as a Lantern)
Name: Wally West
Designation: Kid Lantern, Flash of Coast City
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System: Third Planet (Earth), City: Keystone City
Spectrum Affinity: Blue, Green
Dossier: Wally West is a new arrival to Coast City after living his entire life in Keystone. He made the awkward transition in the middle of his high school years. Unlike most of his classmates, he doesn’t seem too surprised by the Lanterns’ presence.
During a storm of uncontrollable energy released from the Emotional Spectrum, Wally is struck first by a Lightning Bolt of Fear then of Willpower. The latter leaves him supercharged with the Green Spectrum and left in a comatose state when one of the Last Lights finds him and gives him a vision of when he’d be needed the most. Wally suits up as the Flash of Coast City and runs straight for the Lantern Remnant to answer their call for help.
Wally gains quite the amount of notice in that single night. Though the rest of the Remnant refer to him as Kid Lantern, Coast City officially recognizes him as their Flash (with barely any encouraging from Watchtower). He saved hundreds of people and dispelled the "Fear Effect" left on even more, creating his own storm or Willpower and Hope to heal and strengthen the people of his new home. The night was a trying test on Wally but he pulled through it, never refusing to give up hope.
His powers as a Lantern are somewhat unique for more than simple fact he has more influence over Blue than Green. He barely has any ability to create constructs (he can fire energy in the form of lightning easily) but his mere presence calms and empowers the Remnant. Mostly though... He is known for his speed, phasing, and ability to create tiny breaches that he then uses to travel or even as an unusual defense. When combined with with his physical capabilities, he dubs it his "Flash Step" where it appears as if he teleports in a single step. To his great annoyance, he cannot fly for some inexplicable reason.
First Appearance: Lantern #3, Lantern #7 (Kid Lantern/Flash of Coast City)
Name: Guy Gardner
Designation: GL 2814-2
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System: Third Planet (Earth), City: Happy Harbor
Spectrum Affinity: Green, Red, Yellow
Dossier: Guy Gardner did not seem the obvious choice to be recruited into the Green Lantern Corps but if rumors hold true, he was meant to be the first human Lantern. Born into a family of police officers, Guy’s life went down a different road as he became an educator, teaching and coaching at his local high school in Happy Harbor until a Green Lantern ring found its way onto his finger. Gardner became the second human lantern, partnering up with the original to protect Earth and the rest of sector 2814. He was one of the few survivors who faced off against the Impurity that ripped the Corps apart. Upon his return to earth, he opened a bar (Oasis) in Coast City and took an unusual young woman under his protection. He lived this way for some time until the Manhunters found proof that hinted he possessed the last power ring.
Gardner possesses limited control over energy from the Emotional Spectrum without the need to channel it through a power ring. Years of experience has made him familiar with the Green spectrum while a natural affinity to the Red is in his blood.
Once more, Guy Gardner has accepted his role as a Green Lantern of Earth putting his ring back on and accepting Kyle Rayner as a “cadet.”
First Appearance: Lantern #1
Name: Jessica Cruz
Designation: Miss Voltadoom
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System: Third Planet (Earth), City: Portland
Spectrum Affinity: Yellow, Green
Dossier: The victim of tragedy, Jessica witnessed the murder of her friends in the forests outside of Gotham while visiting. She spent weeks hiding out in the wilderness until finally being discovered. At some point, Jessica found a power ring in her possession with access to the entire Spectrum. Unable to remove it, the ring opened her up to the Emotional Spectrum leaving her vulnerable to outside influence while simultaneously allowing her to draw out the powers in others. Unstable in her affinities, she has shown the ability to create constructs of Yellow color and has succeeded in charging Guy Gardner and awakening (through Blue) Kyle Rayner.
Suffering from a severe case of social anxiety and possibly more mental disorders, Jessica lives the life of a shut-in but comes alive through interaction on the internet as “Miss Voltadoom.” She is an avid LPer who has a partnership with Twitch and affiliation with YouTube. In the latter’s case, she broke a million then three million subscribers at record speeds in a very short span. She hates to admit it but has credited her emotional empathy for making her popular as her feelings can still bleed through recordings (making the viewer experience it in a whole new fashion) albeit severely reduced than in person.
First Appearance: Lantern #1, Lantern #2 (Name Revealed)
Name: Ch’p
Designation: 1014-1
Origin: Sector 1014, Planet H’lven
Spectrum Affinity: Green
Dossier: Ch’p of H’lven was widely recognized as the best recruit admitted into the Corps since Hal Jordan. He had the respect of most members of the Old Guard and received the highest marks during training in generations. Like Gardner, he survived the Impurity and relocated to Earth. The two Lanterns decided between them that Ch’p would be entrusted with the last power ring as Gardner possessed limited control over the Emotional Spectrum without one.
Following a confrontation with the Manhunters, Ch’p surrendered himself into the custody of the D.E.O. to be given to the Terran Manhunter (Kate Spencer) as a way of preventing and future releasing of the Beasts.
First Appearance: Lantern #2 (Off Page), Lantern #3
Status: Detained
Name: Mogo
Designation: 2261-1, Sector 2261.142.M, Mogo the Living Planet
Origin: Sector 2261
Affinity: Green, Yellow
Dossier: One of the first Green Lanterns ever, Mogo is unique in that he is billions of years old and a sentient planet. His job within the Corps was to seek out new members by sending power rings to those worthy of them and acting as their first teacher. He did not socialize in person but he was an active companion to nearly every Green Lantern within the Corps’ history.
Following the incident with the Yellow Impurity and the fall of the GLC, the Manhunters took custody of Mogo and the senior Manhunter J’onn Jonzz accepted a role oddly similar to the one Mogo had. The two helped each other to track and find corrupted Lanterns throughout the universe. However, Mogo went to great lengths to protect the location of the last nine power rings forged by the Guardians of Oa but not even his mind was immune to the Martian’s telepathic intrusion. Despite everything, Mogo is the Manhunters’ greatest resource and they will defend him with their lives.
First Appearance: Lantern #1, Lantern #5 (Name Revealed)
Status: Detained
Designation: Green Lantern 1417-2
Origin: Sector 1417, Planet Korugar
Spectrum Affinity: Green
Dossier: A former Lantern, Katma Tui worked alongside Thaal Natu (Sinestro).
During a party that Hal Jordan hosted on Mogo, she met John Stewart – the back-up lantern from Sector 2814. They soon formed a relationship, with John having Jordan create a ring that would allow him to leave Earth to visit with her. Sinestro was initially against the pairing, but eventually came to not only approve, but pleaded their case before the Guardians that it should not only be allowed to continue, but made official, Sinestro himself hosting the ceremony.
During the fall of the Lanterns, Katma Tui was rendered comatose, and she now resides on Earth, receiving the best of medical care from the Department of Extranormal Operations that John Stewart is Deputy Director of. Every year on their anniversary, John acquires a bunch of her favorite flowers for her
First Appearance: Infinite Holiday Special 2016, "These Flowers Bloom for You"
Status: Comatose
Name: Hal Jordan
Designation: GL 2814-1
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System: Third Planet (Earth), City: Coast City
Spectrum Affinity: Green, Yellow
Dossier: Once upon a time, Hal Jordan was considered one of the greatest Green Lanterns in Corps and the funny thing is… he wasn’t meant to be one. His predecessor’s (Abin Sur) power ring found him as a matter of convenience. He quickly proved himself worthy, earning a place as the last of the Old Guard. He was well liked among the Corps, often given nicknames to all the others. He began a tradition where every year, as many Lanterns that could be spared, gathered on Mogo to celebrate being thankful they were all still here a year later. He was Guy Gardner’s partner.
Hal led the charge on the Central Battery against the Impurity and as far as the others knew, he was the last man standing. In truth, Hal became overcome with Fear more than any other Green Lantern. He challenged their leadership, murdering some. He razed planets. All for the greater good, to defend against perceived threats. Other Lanterns followed him and succumbed to their own corruption. Where Hal Jordan is now is a mystery. His Ring was left in the possession of Guy Gardner while the D.E.O. and Ferris Air claimed his Power Battery for study.
Outside of being a Green Lantern, Hal was a charming test pilot for Ferris Air where he had an on again, off again relationship with the previous owner’s daughter Carol. The main difficulty in their relationship wasn’t the distance. It was all the beautiful alien women who seemed to enter Hal’s life.
First Appearance: (Referenced) Lantern: Issue Four
Status: Unknown
Manhunters
Before the Green Lantern Corps, there were the Manhunters. And after, there are the Manhunters. Not even the Corps with their crimes against the Universe and what remains of their weapons can escape the Manhunters.Designation: Manhunter 2261, Martian Manhunter, The Hunter
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System, Fourth Planet (Mars)
Dossier: A mysterious individual living in isolation on a strange planet. 2261 is a senior Manhunter with multiple responsibilities, one of them helping to send various Manhunters where they need to go to track down criminals, fugitive Lanterns, and to collect lost power rings. Guy Gardner referred to him as “The Martian.”
He is J’onn J’onzz the Last Son of Mars and an ancient Manhunter from a time before the Green Lanter Corps, carrying on the collective legacy of his people. Perhaps one of the most powerful individuals in the universe, J’onn is known to Earth and following the fall of the Green Lantern Corps, he took it upon himself to refound the Manhunters and hunt down dangerous power ring wielders in order to protect the universe from their threat. He deploys Manhunters across the various Sectors based on information discerned from the Planet Mogo and the Hunter’s Network Database. He is the last line of defense on/for Mogo.
First Appearance: Lantern #1 (As the Hunter/2216), Lantern #5 (Name Revealed)
Designation: Manhunter 2814/The Terran Manhunter
Origin: Sector 2814, Third Planet (Earth), City: Gotham
Dossier: A former district attorney, Kate Spencer became the second Manhunter Operative chosen from Earth upon the early demise of her predecessor. As Manhunter 2814, she has assumed many of the duties formerly handled by the Green Lanterns in the Sector. Her strong sense of justice and fair play has proven to be both a boon and a curse to the Manhunters as while very few Men escape her; she takes a roundabout way to get there to best attempt to retrieve them alive. Her success rate in live retrieval is second to none. When not patrolling the Sector, she resides in Gotham with her son. The DA’s office considers her to be on sabbatical from work following a particularly trying case.
First Appearance: Lantern #1, Lantern #3 (Name Revealed)
Designation: Manhunter 2814.116
Origin: Sector 2814, Sol System: Third Planet (Earth)
Dossier: One of many Manhunter Agents scattered throughout Sector 2814, he is stationed on Earth and has been observing Guy Gardner since the disbandment of the Green Lantern Corps. He has shown, or implied, he is more than willing to sacrifice innocent lives to protect the universe from the Lantern and power ring threat. His Manhunter armor is standard issue humanoid design.
First Appearance: Lantern #5
Name: Beasthunter(s)
Designations: Manhunter B.O, Manhunter B.Y, Manhunter B.G, Manhunter B.B, Manhunter B.I, Manhunter B.V
Origin: Manhunter Caches in every Sector
Dossier: The Beasthunters are a relic from the last days of a previous Manhunter incarnation capable of adapting to threats by shapeshifting slightly. They were created for the sole purpose to combat the Emotional Spectrum yet unfortunately suffer from a lack of sufficient programming to distinguish between targets. They exist to hunt Spectrum users. Any particularly high emotional spike tied to their current form can attract their attention. With release of the Impurity, their use was sanctioned by the Guardians to hunt down rogue Green Lanterns. Their appearance and animal-like nature led to the nickname “Beasts.” The current Manhunters utilize them rarely and are capable of exerting limited control over their hunting patterns.
Their adaptive nature is specifically used to focus the natures of the Emotional Spectrum leading to their various designations and purposes. This design has been unable to combat the Red Energy of Rage as found out when they failed to stop Vuldarians from committing genocide in Sector 0666.
First Appearance: Lantern #4 (Mentioned), Lantern #5
Designation: Manhunter 1417, the Bellatrixian Manhunter, Green Lantern 1414-1
Origin: Sector 1414, Planet Bellatrix
Spectrum Affinity: Green, Yellow
Dossier: Boodikka was already a Green Lantern for decades before the assault on the Central Battery. Many assumed her to be a strange choice as a Green Lantern as she once led a galactic mercenary company and after a few trying years under a more moderate training officer, she became a loyal and trusted member of the Corps. Her experience worked against her as she was not chosen to join the strikeforce and would be needed in the days after the attack should it succeed or fail. Rumors say she put Guy Gardner’s head through a table in the Oan mess hall.
At first Boodikka did not appear corrupted by the Impurity. She followed orders. She led attacks. Never aware she wasn’t fully in control of her actions and was being manipulated by an outside force. Thaal Natu freed her from Impurity’s control by cutting off her hand and severing her main connection with the Emotional Spectrum. The Manhunters would further stabilize her emotions with their technology and Manhunter 2261’s personal efforts. She became the Bellatrixian Manhunter and was assigned Sector 1414 as a Manhunter from their own Sector would not allow for impartial judgment.
Boodikka died not as a Manhunter but as a Green Lantern, murdered at the hands of the very man who saved her life from the Impurity following the failed execution of Soranik Natu.
First Appearance: Lantern: Yellow
The Sinestro Corps
The Sinestro Corps was founded through the blood and sweat of the legendary Green Lantern Thaal Natu. He brought new Power Rings from the Antimatter Universe attuned only to the Yellow Spectrum. Their goal is to use the very essence of the Impurity to restore order to the Universe.
Name: Thaal “Sinestro” Natu
Designation: Sinestro, Green Lantern 1417-1
Origin: Sector 1417, Planet Korugar
Spectrum Affinity: Yellow, Green, Blue
Dossier: Thaal Natu was perhaps the greatest Green Lantern in the Corps history and the unofficial leader of the “Old Guard” following Abin Sur’s death. If he still possessed a Green Lantern Power Ring, it’s quite possible he’d still be considered the greatest left in the Remnant. However, Natu has exchanged Green for Yellow, utilizing the very emotion the Impurity inflicts across the universe to fight it and those under its corruption. This Yellow Ring was forged in the Antimatter Universe following a battle with the Impurity that left him stranded there.
Thaal Natu gave his all for the Corps. His strict and authoritative presence was every bit as comforting to his brethren as Mogo’s kindness. Natu would do what needed to be done so that others would not have to. He would sin in their place. He forged a relationship with a fellow legendary Green Lantern Abin Sur that led to the two becoming literal brothers as Natu married and had a daughter with Abin Sur’s sister. When Abin Sur died, he became the training officer for the first earthling Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) who had inherited the other’s ring. Over the years, Natu grew to accept Jordan, call him his friend, and tolerated the nickname of Sinestro that human called him by.
Jordan and Natu along with the rest of the Old Guard led the strike on Central Battery to fight the Impurity only to learn their victory was a lie and the cost of the gained power was too much for the Corps to handle with their rigid ways. As the taint and corruption spread across the Corps, Natu found himself with only a handful of rookies defending his homeworld from Green Lantern attack. He killed or freed what Lanterns he could and made for the Impurity itself after learning of his wife’s death. The heated battle left the Universe thinking they had lost their last hope against the Oncoming Horror.
Death would have been better but it was not Natu’s lot in life. He fought his way to return home using whatever means necessary. Upon learning of his daughter’s impending execution for possessing a Power Ring, Natu came to her aid, dismantling and disintegrating Manhunters with ease as the Universe watched. There, on Korugar, he renounced his former name. He would be Sinestro and he would fight Fear with Fear.
The Sinestro Corps’ was founded that day.
First Appearance: Lantern: Yellow
Name: Soranik Natu
Designation: Sora
Origin: Sector 1417, Planet Korugar
Spectrum Affinity: Yellow
Dossier: Soranik Natu is the Daughter to legendary Green Lantern Thaal Natu and Arin Sur making her the niece to the equally legendary Abin Sur. Only half-Korugarian, her father’s reputation kept her from being teased growing up as he was their planet’s savior. Every child grew up with stories of the Great Thaal Natu. She was raised among Green Lanterns, visiting their headquarters at Oa or meeting in person the famous Mogo. The sense of duty and need to give back to the people was instilled in Soranik from an early age though she took a different path than her father and uncle, electing to become a doctor.
Her surgical skills saved many lives during the Green Lantern attack on her homeworld and the following days. Despite the known ties to the Green Lanterns, her life remained relatively unchanged in part to her father’s actions above their planet and his sacrifice against the Impurity. That is, until one of the Last Lights found her. She kept the Power Ring safe, never talking about it, never wielding it, never even thinking about it. She continued on until a patient on her table would die if she didn’t at least try something. In her fear, she failed to use the Power Ring properly and the patient still died. Reviled by her close coworkers, Soranik turned herself in to Chief Arsona of the Korugar City Guard and accepted her punishment.
As her execution approached, Manhunter 1417 used both psychological and physical methods of intimidation to break Soranik leaving a scar beneath the woman’s left eye. This was largely unneeded. Soranik gave up her information willing. When her father saved her and proclaimed to the universe the foundation of the Sinestro Corps, Soranik was left with no choice but to join him. Wielding one of the Last Lights of the Universe, she became the second Yellow Lantern.
First Appearance: Lantern: Yellow
Unknown
Name: Unknown
Designation: “The Impurity”
Origin: Central Battery on Oa
Spectrum Affinity: Yellow, Green
Dossier: The Impurity was trapped by the Guardians of the Universe and imprisoned within the Green Lantern Central Battery ages ago. This imprisonment restricted second generation power rings to using their Willpower to overcome Great Fear as the Impurity is a living embodiment of fear on a cosmic scale instead of overwhelming them with other emotions. With the approaching Blackest Night, the Guardians felt fear themselves. They decided to lift the restriction. A strike team led by the greatest of Green Lanterns, Thaal Natu and Hal Jordan, infiltrated the central battery and fought surrounded by the very essence of their Light to give them strength yet it was not enough.
Victory was assumed. The Impurity had vanished from the battery.
It had found a host to hide in.
As Green Lantern after Green Lantern failed to cope with the new emotions they had to control, The Impurity infected more by the dozens. It organized the murder of many of the Guardians and sacking of Oa. With the threat of Thaal Natu on the horizon, The Impurity led his Green Lanterns to attack Korugar only to be pushed back by Natu and the companions he had gathered. In a heated battle with the Green Lantern of Korugar, the Impurity banished him to Antimatter Universe.
Now that the Green Lantern Corps is no more, the Impurity spreads his fear across the universe, infecting and touching beings from lightyears away. He assumes the appearance of a Green Lantern shrouded in a tattered cloak, giving off a sickly yellow aura. His interest on Earth is apparent as he seems to have given a mission to the supervillain known as “Scarecrow” through a vision. Why he uses a proxy is unknown.
His last known location was on the planet Mogo where he met with its protector, the Martian Manhunter.
First Appearance: Batman: Gotham Knights #0.1
